Book presentation F*ck the system and other bad ideas for the future by Jo Caudron

In this presentation, Jo Caudron takes you through the greatest geopolitical upheaval of this generation, and explains what it means for businesses and society. Drawing on his new book Fuck The System, and other bad ideas for the future, he shows why it is precisely those shocks that seem to be tearing the world apart that are driving Europe forward.

English 60 minutes

Introduction

We operate on the basis of assumptions about how the world works: which brands are dominant, where technology comes from, which communication platforms matter, what consumers expect, which markets lead and which follow.

Is it true that Europe no longer has any good solutions? Why does the notion persist that our regulations are destroying the economy, and what is the cost to our entrepreneurial spirit? What does innovation look like when ‘winner-takes-all’ is no longer the only model? And how do you translate all of that into market choices?

Jo uses the term ‘Worldshock’ to describe what is converging today: geopolitical fault lines, AI, deglobalisation, climate pressures and an America that is withdrawing from its role as leader of the West. For Europe, this is not only a crisis, but above all an opportunity to take our destiny back into our own hands. For the first time in 80 years, there is a growing realisation that Europe is not merely a market extension of the US, but must once again be capable of moving from the lab to the bedside, from idea to commercial success. He concludes with the ‘curve of hope’, the concept that explains what drives the next generation of Europeans and why the future belongs to those who dare to claim it.
